AURASOL®
A solid dosage form of
colloidal metallic gold,
containing 10 mg of gold per tablet.
For use as a source of
colloidal metallic gold without medical or health claims
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
Gold is a precious metal which exists in nature in two basic forms:
metallic gold and gold salts,
Metallic gold is called a noble metal because it does not react with
other compounds easily and
is usually inert. This is true for bulk gold, such as gold nuggets. If
metallic gold is divided into
fine particles with sizes ranging from one to one hundred billionths of
a meter, metallic gold
becomes colloidal and possesses new properties due to the large amount
of gold atoms exposed
at the surface of the particles. Colloidal gold possesses a negative
charge at the surface of the
particles and absorbs strongly to other molecules without changing
their chemical and biological
properties.
On the other hand, gold salts contain positively charged gold that
forms strong chemical bond
with other compounds normally present in the body and change their
properties. This causes
toxic reactions in the body because the immune system does not
recognize these gold salts'
complexes as self. (1)
Gold salts are currently used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
(RA) with some success,
but they cause side effects, sometimes severe enough to discontinue the
gold salts: skin rashes,
diarrhea, anemia, abnormalities in blood and urine tests. Because of
those immune reactions,
gold salts cease to be effective after 1-2 years and are rarely used in
RA at the present time
because of their toxicity. (2)
II. THE ROLE OF COLLOIDAL GOLD IN HEALTH
Colloidal metallic gold has been used since antiquity as a remedy for revitalization,
rejuvenation and to improve memory and mental alertness. Colloidal gold is extremely
safe without any known side effect. (3) The
oral administration of 30 mg of colloidal gold (Aurasol®)
per day to five subjects for one month, increased their mean I.Q. score
by 20%. (4) There was a carry over effect of one to
two months after stopping the gold.
There is some evidence that colloidal gold formed in the body after
administration of gold salt is
the active ingredient in the treatment of RA and the side effects are
caused by the gold salt
themselves, which interfere with the beneficial effects of the
colloidal gold. In 10 patients with
RA not responding to previous treatment, the administration of 30 mg of
colloidal metallic gold (Aurasol®)
daily for one year resulted in marked improvement of joint pain,
swelling and
mobility within one week. After six months of colloidal gold ingestion,
the mean scores for
joint pain and swelling were tenfold lower. No evidence of
toxicity was observed clinically and in a blood tests
performed up to one year in
the RA patients. (5)
Even though gold is present in minute amounts in the human body,
mainly in the liver, this metal
is not considered an essential element for good health and there is no
minimum daily
requirement. It is possible; however, that metallic gold in the
colloidal form may play important
roles in human health. Such colloids enhance the effects of
antioxidants by catalyzing electron transfer in oxidation-reduction
reaction. (6) This antioxidant effect in
protecting from free
radical damages may play a role in the beneficial effects of colloidal
gold. Since colloidal gold
concentrates in certain cells of the body, involved in surveillance and
protection against
infectious microbes, and foreign compounds; in detoxification of the
liver; and in destruction
and elimination of dead cells from the body; it is likely that
colloidal gold plays important, if at
the present unknown, roles in overall well-being.
III. USE OF AURASOL®
Aurasol®
is the culmination of 10 years of research on the preparation, storage,
stability and
effects of concentrated aqueous dispersions of colloidal metallic gold,
and of the dried powder
obtained after water evaporation of Aurasol®
liquid.
The gold particle sizes of Aurasol®
are below 20 billionths of a meter (<20 nm). Bio-availability
studies with oral administration of different colloidal
sizes of gold revealed that
intestinal absorption was almost nonexistent with sizes greater than 20
nm. (Unpublished).
As a nutritional supplement, the recommended amount is one tablet of
10 mg in the morning
after breakfast. However, your health care provider may recommend
different amounts
depending on your condition. Even though over the last 10 years, no
side effect has been
observed with the use of Aurasol®
in amounts from three to 60 mg/day, it is best that your
response to Aurasol®
be monitored by a qualified healthcare provider.
IV. PACKING
